We are the University of Abertay Dundee Students’ Association and welcome to our campaign page for “Hands Off Abertay”.

On the 23rd of September, it has been reported the Scottish funding Council had sent an email to Abertay University to enter merger talks with Dundee University. This is an unprecedented and highly inappropriate move from the Scottish Funding Council that represents a very real and tangible threat to Abertay’s future as an independent, innovative and excelling university – and it is the students that will suffer in the long term.

Now is the time to take action.

We are calling on the wider community to support making the following commitments to the Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council:

You can support the Hands Off Abertay campaign by:

1 - Signing our petition

Thank you for your tremendous support!
We are no longer collecting signatures as we prepare to hand over the petition and our response to the consultation on Putting Learner's at the Centre, during the 'All Taygether Now' rally at Dundee Union campus on the 5th December 2011.

1278Robert WilliamsDundeeI did my undergrad at Abertay in Commerce/Business, then Masters at Dundee & RGU and am now back at Abertay. Abertay gave me the best education - all I learned at Abertay has been relevant to my other studies. Both the staff at Abertay & RGU are more student orientated than the 'established' universities- their focus is on helping you attain your best- the support is outstanding. The SNP want to merge the Universities - let's not forget our local SNP, Joe Fitzpatrick is a graduate of Abertay and the SNP only just have the balance of power in Dundee City Council. If they wish to go down this route they will lose the student vote.
1277Lynn FairweatherDundeeAbertay is a unique university and a great place to study, including the wonderful staff and lecturers. It would be a sad day for everyone if Abertay was to lose that uniqueness which makes it the the institution it is. To change that would be to change what Abertay stands for.
